Today we are celebrating the 84th anniversary of the Harrington Cup which was won in a match against the English team during the Turkish War of Independence.
After a match which resulted in 2-1 General Harrington presented the Harrington Cup to our players. This cup is especially important for the Turkish citizens at that time because it symbolizes the resistance of the Turkish nation during the Turkish War of Independence.
From that moment on Turkish people has been associating sport and patriotism with Fenerbahce.
In that year Fenerbahce also became the champion of the IStanbul Cup by scoring 53 goals. This championship had more signifiance as it was won without conceding a single goal.
